Cinevic's Winter Party & Film Festivus

Mark your calendars! Join the local film community at Cinevic's Winter Party & Film Festivus to be held at the Victoria Event Centre on Thursday, December 22nd. What is the Film Festivus you ask? This year, it's a special screening of our newly minted Winter Film Challenge. Here are the details...

Winter Film Challenge

Registration Deadline: Noon, Nov. 1st

Films Due: Noon, December 19th

Registration fee: $50

Registration is open to the public. Maximum of 12 film teams. Register early!

Filmmakers sign up to make a winter-themed short film, no longer than six minutes including credits.

Upon registering for the winter film challenge, filmmakers suggest three appropriate winter stories (from literature, fables, poems, classic films, animations, or narrative songs), thereby creating the list of stories to be randomly assigned. Duplicate stories will be removed.

On November 1st, each filmmaker will be randomly assigned a well-known winter story on which to base their challenge film. Filmmakers must draw their inspiration for their challenge film from the plot, characters, and/or themes of their assigned story. The assigned story’s influence should be evident. Films may be any genre, any style.

Challenge films must be submitted as Apple ProRes 422 HQ compression (or equivalent) .mov files. Maximum resolution 1080p. Films will be screened at Cinevic’s Winter Party & Film Festivus at the Victoria Event Centre on the evening of December 22nd.

In the spirit of the season, the Winter Film Challenge is non-competitve. Teams who have their films submitted on time and under length will be screened and receive a $50 screening fee. (There will be door prizes for filmmaking teams.)
