CineVic is calling for submissions from BC musicians for the 4th Annual Reel to Reel Music/Video Challenge. Registration deadline Monday July 27th, 2009.
The Victoria-based CineVic Society of Independent Filmmakers is currently seeking submissions from local musicians looking to participate in our annual Reel to Reel Challenge.
Now entering its fourth year, this popular annual event pairs up award winning filmmakers with local musical artists of all genres.
Reel to Reel will see the creation of a short musical film built around the chosen artist’s song culminating in a screening night where awards will be handed out to the best entrants.
Not only is this event a great networking tool, it provides great exposure for the artists, as well as cash and prizes. Each year, when the finished films are screened they are also judged by the audience and by a jury panel comprised of a lot of local talent, ranging from filmmakers, musicians, writers and programmers from local radio stations. This is a great forum to be both seen and heard.
This year’s screening will be held September 19th, 2009 at the Victoria Event Centre.
As in previous years, CineVic is hoping to get submissions from musical artists working in any genre; from folk, country, jazz, bluegrass, and electronica, to world beat, classical, indie rock, metal, noise, experimental, you name it! The exposure these artists stand to receive is substantial, and past Reel to Reelers have been very successful.
The musical films themselves also defy description in the variety they offer; expect to see animation, haunting found footage, experimental and traditional linear narratives. The only limitations filmmakers have are their imagination!
BC based filmmaker Ana de Lara’s short film “In Control†started as a Reel to Reel project and went on to win awards and screen in festivals all over North America, including a Jury Prize in 2008 at Toronto’s esteemed Commffest Film Festival.
