Jim Knox - President
JJim studied creative writing in the graduate program at Concordia University in Montreal before beginning his independent filmmaking career in Victoria. He’s written, directed and edited drama for national television, and his first feature film ‘Cascadia’, which screened internationally after premiering at the 2010 Blue Planet Environmental Film Festival. He has taught screenwriting at Camosun College and Victoria Motion Picture School, and continues teaching various aspects of filmmaking at Pacific Film Academy and the Screen Actors Studio. His multimedia work includes ‘BC PEOPLE: Portraits of Diversity in BC’ and is serving his 5th term as president.

David Geiss - Vice President
David obtained a BFA in Film & Video Production on scholarship from the University of Regina, and has since been an independent filmmaker, artist, writer, and occasional performer. He has exhibited across Canada, the United States, and Europe, meanwhile successfully navigating through several genres of work, including recurring actor roles on the TV comedy series Corner Gas, serving as Festival Coordinator for Queer City Cinema media arts festival, and the positions of both President of the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative and Editor of its independent film magazine Splice. In 2006 his film Queen City won the Best Documentary Award at the Canadian National Youth Film Festival in Ottawa. His 2009 docu-drama Stubblejumper screened at several international festivals, and was selected to be part of World AIDS Day programming on OUTtv. David’s newest short documentary Basin has screened at several festivals including Hot Docs in Toronto, and was a Hall of Fame winner at the Magmart International Videoart Festival, placing it in the permanent collection of the Casoria Contemporary Art Museum in Italy.

Robyn Unwin - Treasurer
With a professional background in broadcast journalism and marketing management, Robyn has worked in the field of media and communications for 18 years. Robyn has worked in the commercial film industry, but is currently working in marketing. Her latest project, What it is all About: the Life and Art of Joe Egoyan is an experimental documentary utilizing 16mm elements and has screened at numerous festivals. Robyn recently served as Producer on the independent feature Nighthawks.

Natalie North - Secretary

Natalie is a full time reporter, whose freelance work has appeared in a
variety of newspapers and magazines. She discovered the joys of film when her first ridiculous student work screened at the University of Victoria's student film festival in 2009. Since then, she began co-executive producing One to 11, a series of linked short films set in the capital city. This year marks her completion of a degree in writing from UVic and her debut as a producer/low-budget costumier for BFA: The Musical!, in the 2011 Victoria Fringe Theatre Festival.

Daniel Hogg – Director at Large (Programming)

A twelve-year veteran of independent film, Victoria native Daniel Hogg is a screenwriter, producer, director, and fair-weather director of photography.  A recent graduate of UCLA’s Professional Program in Screenwriting, Daniel earned his BFA in Writing at the University of Victoria, where he currently works in arts education, mentoring students in the ways of film.  As a director of photography on over 35 short films and award-winning music videos, his work has broadcast nationally (Much, MuchLoud, MuchMore) and screened in festivals across North America.  As a producer, he jointly won a Leo Award for Freshman’s Wharf (Best Web Series, 2011).  When he’s not writing shorts and features, Daniel currently sings with Vox Humana, Victoria’s premier chamber ensemble.

Sharon Joseph - Director at Large (Bingo)

Currently working as a horticulturalist, Sharon has been a member of CineVic for about ten years, volunteering on a number of short films. In 2002 Sharon directed Bridges a short film exploring the work of a Saltspring Island painter. 2008 saw her producing a featurette Tumbling After. The longest serving board member, Sharon was responsible for liaising with the Playtime Bingo Association as required by one of our major funders - the BC Gaming Policy & Enforcement Branch.

Joey Macdonald - Director at Large (Communications)
New to the board, Joey is a prominent communication designer working in identity, non-profit marketing, print & web design and implementation. He has made a number of 16mm Films and is the coordinator of music and media art event Sound & Vision. He serves as the Art Director at the UVic Student’s Society and as director and administrator at the Olio Artists & Workers Cooperative. Projects he has designed or implemented include Cinecenta.com, JazzFest 2009's site, cinevic.ca, Scene+Heard design, aarghrecords.com, the Fisgard Mural, Downtown Community Garden, and lots of other stuff. He is excited to give Cinevic some slick treatment.

Michael Korican - Director at Large (Production)
A long-time media artist, Michael’s filmmaking stretches back to 1978. Michael graduated from York University film school with Special Honours, winning the Famous Players Scholarship in his final year. The Rolling Stone Book of Rock Video called Michael's first feature, Recorded: Live!, "the first film about rock video". Michael previously served on the board of L.I.F.T. when he lived in Toronto during the eighties. He has been prolific over the past five years, having made over twenty-eight shorts, won numerous awards, produced two works for Bravo and received development for Begbie’s Ghost through the CIFVF. Michael is a database manager and website developer.

Dirk Slot - Director at Large (Fundraising)

A long-time CineVic board member, Dirk is currently studying chemistry and Russian at the University of Victoria with a focus on Russian film studies. A 2000 graduate of film production at the Victoria Motion Picture School. Dirk has directed several short films and a music video (created in Reel-to-Reel) which is going to be broadcast in Oct. 2006 as a part of CHUM-TV’s “Much does Victoria”. Dirk’s main focus is shooting and processing black and white film as well as instructing others in this process.
