Maureen Bradley - President
Maureen Bradley is a media artist, curator and educator who has directed 32 short films and videos, three video installations and two web art projects. Her award winning productions have screened at galleries and festivals around the globe including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Many of her productions have been broadcast in North America and abroad. In 1992, Maureen reached her largest audience of more than 15 million viewers appearing as a videographer on the CBC TV series Road Movies.
Retrospectives of Maureen’s work have screened at festivals in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg and Ottawa. Four of her films won Best Short Film awards in Santa Barbara, Austin, Philadelphia and Chicago. Her half hour narrative short What Remains Human was nominated for the prestigious PlanetOut Short Movie Awards in 2006. She is a past president of the board or Video In Studios, outgoing president of Queer City Cinema and sits on the advisory board of Out On Screen, Western Canada’s second largest film festival. In 2002, Maureen became the first female director to joining the Saskatchewan District Council of the Directors Guild of Canada.
Currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Writing at UVic, Maureen founded the UVic Student Film Festival, UV Sunscreen, in 2005. She has taught film and video production and post at UBC, The University of Regina, Video In Studios, and Video Verité. Earlier this year, Maureen served on the Canada Council for the Arts National Cinémateque jury and was the Media Arts Advisor for the review of the Individual Assistance Grants program in the Media Arts with the Saskatchewan Arts Board from 2002 to 2004.

Jim Knox - Secretary

Jim Knox came to filmmaking as a published short fiction author, studying creative writing in the graduate program at Concordia University in Montreal. He’s written and directed drama and commercials for broadcast television, and his works have been broadcast, is showing on Bravo! and the NewVI. He has taught screenwriting at the Victoria Motion Picture School and Camosun College, and is currently developing a series with the May Street group and is working with Atomic Vaudeville.

Towagh Behr - Director at Large (Fundraising)

Towagh has just completed an MA in visual anthropology with a specialization in facilitating the creation of video and online projects with indigenous communities and currently works as a webpage developer and indigenous media consultant. He has several years of experience doing administrative work and fundraising for non-profit organizations.

Dirk Slot - Director at Large (Production)

A CineVic board member in his fourth term, Dirk is currently studying chemistry and Russian at the University of Victoria with a focus on Russian film studies. A 2000 graduate of film production at the Victoria Motion Picture School. Dirk has directed several short films and a music video (created in Reel-to-Reel) which is going to be broadcast in Oct. 2006 as a part of CHUM-TV’s “Much does Victoria”. Dirk’s main focus is shooting and processing black and white film as well as instructing others in this process.

Sharon Joseph - Director at Large (Bingo)

Currently working as a horticulturalist, Sharon has been a member of CineVic for about six years, volunteering on a number of short films. Holding the board position of Bingo Rep for several years, this involves liaising with the Langford Drop-In Bingo Association as required by one of our major funders - the BC Gaming Policy & Enforcement Branch.

Robyn Unwin - Director at Large (Communications)

With an educational and professional background in broadcast journalism and marketing management, Robyn has worked in the field of media and communications for 18 years. Currently working in marketing, Robyn brings a plethora of fundraising experience to her first year on the board.
